The important bits, without making it painful.
These terms are here to keep everything clear, fair and simple. I want the whole process to feel personal and enjoyable, not stiff or awkward, so this page covers how commissions, payments, timings, revisions, prints and original work are handled.
A quick overview
By placing an order, booking a commission, or purchasing a print or original artwork from S2 Art, you agree to the terms on this page.
- Commissions are booked once a deposit has been received.
- All artwork timings are estimates and can vary slightly.
- Final payments must be made before dispatch.
- Personalised commissioned pieces are usually non-returnable.
- Colours may vary a little between screens and real life.
This allows time and materials to be set aside for your piece.
That is part of what makes original artwork special.
Packaging is done with care to help protect the piece in transit.
Before you order
Please make sure the photo or photos you send are clear enough for me to work from. If I think a reference image will not produce the best result, I will say so. I would rather be honest at the start than promise something that does not do your subject justice.
Prices, sizes and availability can change from time to time, but once your quote and booking have been agreed, that is the price for your order unless you ask for changes.
General points
- You must have permission to use any reference images you send.
- Artwork is created in my own style rather than copied mechanically.
- Estimated completion dates are given in good faith, but life occasionally happens.
- I reserve the right to decline a booking if the request is not suitable.
The details
1. Orders and commissions
S2 Art offers custom portrait commissions, original artwork, and prints. Commission bookings are subject to availability. A quote will normally be agreed before work begins, based on size, medium, number of subjects, complexity, and any other relevant details.
2. Deposits and payment
A 50% deposit is required to secure a commission slot. This deposit is non-refundable once work has started, as time and materials will already have been committed to your piece. The remaining balance must be paid in full before the finished artwork is dispatched or collected.
3. Reference images
The final artwork depends heavily on the quality of the photos provided. You are responsible for making sure you have the right to share and use those images. S2 Art cannot accept responsibility for issues caused by poor quality, blurry, heavily filtered, or incomplete reference photos.
4. Artistic style and likeness
Every portrait is created by hand and interpreted in my own artistic style. I always aim for a strong likeness and a piece that feels special, but handmade artwork will naturally differ from a digital printout or exact photographic replica. Minor artistic variation is part of the finished result.
Everything else you should know
5. Revisions
A reasonable level of small adjustments may be discussed during the process where appropriate. Large changes, new reference images after work has begun, or major changes to composition may lead to an extra charge or require a new quote altogether.
6. Timings and completion
Any completion date given is an estimate rather than a guarantee. I will always try to meet agreed timescales, especially for gifts or special occasions, but delays can occasionally happen due to workload, illness, supply issues, or other circumstances beyond my control.
7. Delivery and collection
Finished work will only be sent once the balance has been paid in full. Delivery times may vary depending on the courier and destination. S2 Art is not responsible for delays caused by postal services, customs, strikes, weather, or other third-party issues. If collection is offered, details will be agreed directly.
8. Damaged parcels
If your order arrives damaged, please get in touch as soon as possible with clear photos of the packaging and the artwork. This helps me assess the issue and work out the next steps. Claims made a long time after delivery may be harder to resolve.
9. Returns and cancellations
Because commissioned portraits are personalised and made to order, they are generally non-returnable and non-refundable once work has begun. Non-personalised items such as certain prints or ready-made original works may be eligible for return subject to condition and prior agreement. If you need to cancel before work starts, please contact me as soon as you can.
10. Colours and presentation
I do my best to show artwork as accurately as possible, but colours and tones can appear a little different depending on your screen, device settings, lighting and print process. Small differences between photographs of the work and the piece in person do not count as faults.
11. Copyright and image use
Copyright in the artwork remains with S2 Art unless otherwise agreed in writing. This means I may use photographs of completed work for portfolio, website, social media or promotional purposes. If your commission is a surprise gift or you would rather it is not shared straight away, just say and I can usually hold off posting it.
12. Personal use only unless agreed
Commissioned artwork and purchased prints are for personal use only unless a separate commercial licence has been agreed in writing. Artwork must not be reproduced, resold, copied, minted, printed for resale, or used for business purposes without permission.
13. Right to refuse
S2 Art reserves the right to refuse any order or commission request that is abusive, inappropriate, unlawful, or outside the scope of the work offered.
14. Changes to these terms
These terms may be updated from time to time. The version in place at the time of your booking or purchase will apply to that order unless both sides agree otherwise.
15. Contact
If anything on this page feels unclear, just get in touch before ordering. I am always happy to answer questions plainly rather than hide behind small print.
Want to talk through an idea before booking?
That is absolutely fine. If you have a photo in mind, a rough idea, or you are not quite sure what size or medium would suit best, send me a message and I will help you figure it out.
